AGARTALA: In response to the disruption of train services caused by a landslide in South Assam, the Tripura government convened a high-level meeting on Tuesday morning. The focus of the meeting was to assess the availability of essential commodities, including fuel, in light of the transportation challenges.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that supply chains remain intact and that residents have access to necessary goods despite the ongoing disruptions.
Landslide Disrupts Railway Service in Assam
A landslide on Monday evening severely damaged the railway track between New Haflong and Jatinga Lampur in Assam. The incident occurred when boulders and earth fell onto the tracks, disrupting service in the area. Authorities indicated that the landslide was likely triggered by ongoing road repair work being conducted by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). This event raises concerns about the safety of infrastructure in regions undergoing similar construction activities.

A senior Tripura government official said that state authorities have been in touch with the North East Frontier Railway (NFR) regarding the disruption. Restoration work is underway on a war footing,” the official said. “We received the information and contacted the Area Manager of Badarpur NFR last night. The Sealdah-bound Kanchanjungha Express, which originates from Sabroom in South Tripura, will also remain cancelled between Sabroom and Lumding. NFR had already cancelled three trains originating from Agartala soon after the disruption.
