Bengaluru: CISF personnel at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) detected two yellow-metal capsules weighing around 82 grams concealed inside the mouth of a passenger who had arrived from Dubai. Mohd Siraj, an Indian national, had landed in Bengaluru at 4.17am and was scheduled to travel to Ghaziabad at 9.20 am. On Aug 20, the personnel nabbed two mules who were carrying 260 grams of gold in powder form concealed in their customised trousers.

Officials said further investigation was underway to ascertain the nature and intended destination of the concealed material. The passenger was subsequently handed over to KIA police. This is the second such interception at KIA in the past one week by the CISF team, led by DIG and chief airport security officer Manjunath H. The duo had arrived from Bangkok were set to travel to Ahmedabad when they were caught. The passengers were handed over to Bengaluru police for questioning. Download the TOI App.

Siraj was undergoing a pre-embarkation security check at Terminal 1 when CISF personnel noticed that he was not responding appropriately to the screening officer, according to CISF officials. During further examination, two yellow-metal capsules weighing approximately 82 grams were found concealed inside the passenger’s mouth. Sub-inspector Deepak Kumar Sharma, posted at the screening point, suspected possible concealment and alerted the security officer concerned.

A source said: “The passenger thought the body scanner would not go over his shoulder and it would be best to place them in his mouth during screening. The CISF personnel, who observed movements in his face during scrutiny, subjected him to questioning when the capsules popped out.
