BENGALURU: As the state moved to the next phase of special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, Monday, with the claims and notice period, draft SIR rolls already had 1.07 cr of Karnataka’s 5.5 cr voters axed as they were on the ASDDO category. That number was frozen on Aug 17 night. Now, the election commission will now work with just 4.4 cr voters who are on the draft rolls. Of these, at least 4.02 crore will make it to the final list of Oct 27 as they are not due for notices. Bengaluru emerged as the biggest hotspot for SIR voter verification as 46.88 lakh of its 1.03 cr voters left out of the draft rolls. And from 56.99 lakh who made it to the draft rolls, 24 lakh face notices.
Of the 4.4 cr voters on the draft list, the remainder 43.81 lakh voters are due to receive notices and have to furnish documents, and upon verification, they too can be added to the final rolls that will be published Oct 27.
These cover voters who either did not map themselves to the 2002 electoral data or whose mapping threw up one of nine logical discrepancies identified by the chief electoral officer’s (CEO) office.
All such voters will be listed at their respective polling stations, CEO Anbu Kumar told reporters. Booth level officers (BLOs) will deliver the notices over the next two months. The notice will specify the date, time and venue of the hearing, which the voter must attend in person; there is no provision for a virtual hearing. Voters who are ill or unable to travel can have the ERO or assistant ERO conduct verification at their homes.
