New Delhi: Delhi Traffic Police has issued 346 challans in the run-up to Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, with improper parking and dangerous driving emerging as the most common violations, traffic police sources said. The police, however, did not disclose the total amount collected in fines.

DU officials said several vehicles, including luxury cars, have been flagged for violating election norms. DU proctor Manoj Kumar said the administration was maintaining strict vigil on violations during campaigning. “If a candidate is found violating the prescribed election norms, their candidature can be cancelled,” he said.
Ten vehicles have also been seized for traffic violations, sources added. Election guidelines prohibit the use of luxury vehicles for campaigning and restrict convoys to a maximum of five vehicles. Several videos circulating on social media purportedly show long vehicle convoys moving through the campus, causing traffic congestion. Other videos show candidates and supporters travelling atop moving vehicles, while campaign posters and banners have been pasted on cars, also in violation of the rules. Download the TOI App.
