Hyderabad: Conducting inspections across the core urban region (CURE) on Tuesday, the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG-SAFE) teams seized 15 tonnes of food items worth Rs 30 lakh from retail and manufacturing sweet shops. As many as 15 TG-SAFE teams comprising food safety officers (FSOs) and police personnel inspected 32 sweet shops during the special drives. “Officials lifted 35 food samples on suspicion of adulteration and sent them for further analysis.
The inspections were conducted to check compliance with food safety, hygiene, storage, packaging and labelling regulations,” said a TG-SAFE official. Officials found several violations, including poor hygiene, the presence of expired food articles, improper handling and storage of food products, and the use of spoiled vegetables affected by fungal growth. The teams also detected pest and rodent infestation at some premises. Several establishments were found violating food labelling and display requirements, while certain products carried misleading claims and advertisements.
