Cartoon illustration shows police in Neyveli apprehending a suspected history-sheeter with an injured leg after an alleged attack on officers and an attempted escape on Wednesday.
The history sheeter, Gopi, was wanted for the murder of a youth identified as Naresh Kumar on Aug 16. Police had arrested 14 persons in connection with the murder, though Gopi, who was the prime accused managed to evade arrest. Naresh was hacked to death due to gang rivalry.
Police said they got a tip off that Gopi was hiding in an isolated place near Pulavankuppam in Neyveli. When Gopi refused and attempted to attack other policemen too, inspector shot him on the leg,’’ said a poli e officer. When a police team surrounded him, Gopi attacked two constables with a sickle, injuring them. “Inspector Senthil Kumar gave a warning to Gopi to stop the attack and surrender. Gopi has been admitted to Neyveli govt hospital.
