Warje police have arrested a couple for allegedly killing their 30-year-old son
PUNE: Warje police have arrested a 65-year-old unemployed man and his wife (60) for allegedly beating their 30-year-old son, a casual worker, to death sometime during the night intervening Aug 24 and 25 at their home after he demanded non-vegetarian food for dinner while in an inebriated condition. “The deceased’s elder brother (34) lodged a complaint with the police.
Senior inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi said, “The arrested man used to work as a casual worker, while his wife is a nurse. He used to pick up fights with his parents every day,” Bolkotgi said. “The elderly couple tried to pass off the murder as an accident,” Bolkotgi said.
The deceased was a casual worker and used to consume liquor regularly.
The deceased reached home around 8.30pm on Aug 24 in an inebriated condition. “The couple tried to wake him up around 4am on Aug 25, but he did not respond. The elderly couple then went to their elder son’s house and told him that the deceased had reached home around 2am on Aug 25 in an inebriated condition and was bleeding when he reached home. However, the complainant had seen him reaching home around 8.30pm on Aug 24,” he said.
He said, “The deceased’s elder brother stays nearby, while his sister stays with the family. During Shravan, the family does not consume non-vegetarian food,” he said. He demanded non-vegetarian food for dinner. However, his parents refused to serve him non-vegetarian food, citing the month of Shravan. They claimed that he might have met with an accident somewhere.
