Thodiyoor Muhammed Kunju Moulavi
Kochi : While announcing his decision to step down, Dakshina Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary Thodiyoor Muhammed Kunju Moulavi said he will not resign from the state waqf board immediately. He said he would submit his resignation at an appropriate time after consulting the state govt. Moulavi also said he would resign without expecting any other position in return and would discharge any responsibility assigned to him by govt.
He clarified that the resignation had to be submitted to govt and not the board. Speaking to reporters in Kochi on Thursday after attending the first meeting of the reconstituted waqf board, Moulavi said he had decided to resign to maintain communal harmony.

Sources said his resignation was deferred following legal advice that it should be submitted after the disposal of a case pending before the high court. A final decision has not been taken on who will represent the Kanthapuram faction on the board. The meeting, chaired by waqf board chairman M C Mayin Haji, was attended by seven of the other eight members. The board primarily discussed items from the existing agenda and reportedly did not discuss controversial issues including the land related disputes in Munambam. Meanwhile, the PDP district committee staged a protest outside the waqf board headquarters, demanding the withdrawal of what it termed the illegal dissolution of the board and an end to attempts to politicise it.
