Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: State govt has extended the tenure of taluka-level genealogy verification committees by another year, till June 30, 2027, just days ahead of Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange’s “final and decisive” hunger strike starting Aug 29. With the latest order, govt has ensured that genealogy verification committees continue functioning for another year to clear pending cases. The extension, however, does not alter eligibility norms or certification procedures for applicants seeking Kunbi, Maratha-Kunbi or Kunbi-Maratha status. Download the TOI App.
The move also comes days before the third anniversary of the violence at Antarwali Sarati village during a police crackdown on protesters demanding Maratha reservation.
The tehsildar-led committees were originally constituted through a govt resolution issued on Jan 25, 2024, to verify genealogies and establish applicants’ eligibility for caste certificates and caste validity certificates. Their term ended on June 30, 2026. The extension will take effect retrospectively from July 1, 2026, according to a govt order. The decision follows directions issued during the ninth meeting of the cabinet sub-committee on Maratha reservation on June 2, 2026, which noted that genealogy verification work remained pending in some districts.
