Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A 42-year-old man, involved in a notable murder case, was killed in a hacking incident in the bustling Old Monda area of Jalna on Thursday afternoon. Authorities are investigating the murder as a potential act of revenge, believed to be connected to a murder that occurred in 2024.
Saini was among the key accused in the Sept 2024 murder of Hafeez at a highway lodge in Jamwadi.
The deceased, Sanjay Saini, was attacked with sharp-edged weapons near Jai Maa Hotel around 1pm, and died on the spot, police said. Hafeez was allegedly found at the lodge with a woman related to Saini, following which he was attacked with sharp weapons, and he later succumbed to his injuries, according to police. Superintendent of police Teghbir Singh Sandhu said investigators were examining whether the latest killing was directly linked to the earlier murder case.
The attack in a busy commercial locality triggered panic among shopkeepers and residents. Police have arrested two suspects — Shaikh Nafees and Shaikh Shahbaz — who are believed to be close associates of Abdul Hafeez, whose murder Saini was accused of. Police suspect Thursday’s killing was carried out in retaliation. The murder had triggered tension in the area, with separate cases being registered for the killing and subsequent violence targeting Saini’s residence. The arrested suspects are being questioned to establish the sequence of events and determine whether others were involved in planning or executing the attack. Following the murder, Sadar Bazaar police visited the spot, conducted a panchnama and sent the body to govt hospital for postmortem.
