Pilibhit: A 62-year-old farmer, identified as Munshi Prasad, from Shanti Nagar — a village in Pilibhit district located on the India-Nepal border which falls under the jurisdiction of Kheri district’s North Kheri forest division — was killed Friday evening after leaving for his banana field. CO of the Puranpur circle in Pilibhit, Vidhi Bhushan Maurya, SDM Mayank Goswami and SHO of Hajara police station, Sharad Yadav, later convinced the protesters to disperse assuring to ensure the immediate payment of compensation worth Rs 5 lakh to the deceased’s family along with the approval for one free house under PM Awas Yojana and referring the demand for a govt job for any of his kin.
Police in Pilibhit and forest personnel in Kheri were promptly informed about the incident, but no one from the forest department arrived at the scene through the night, according to locals. His family members began an intensive search when he failed to return home by night. This delay agitated the villagers, who subsequently staged a protest at the Ramnagar T-junction, placing the body on the road. They protested against the forest officials’ apathy.
