Kanpur: A bus driver was killed and 19 people, including the conductor, were injured after a passenger bus rammed into a parked dumper on the Lucknow-Kanpur Highway in Unnao district early Sunday. Doctors declared the bus driver, Devi Prasad (35), dead.
The dumper driver had allegedly parked the vehicle on the roadside and gone to a nearby dhaba for a meal when the bus crashed into it from behind, according to police. His body was sent for postmortem examination, police said. The crash occurred near Chandigarh University under Ajgain Kotwali limits. After being alerted, police reached the spot and rushed the injured to the Community Health Centre.
Two critically injured passengers, Rasheed (24) and Dinesh (48), were referred to the district hospital for further treatment. The remaining 17 injured passengers were administered first aid and later sent onward in another bus. Ajgain inspector Suresh Singh said both vehicles had been seized and an investigation was underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the crash. Download the TOI App.
