Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Nepalganj Road-Nanpara-Bahraich rail section and corresponding train services at the Nepalganj Road railway station in Bahraich. This development is part of ongoing efforts to enhance transportation infrastructure in the region, aiming to improve connectivity and boost local economies.
Yogi said the 56-km rail section was completed at a cost of Rs 730 crore within the stipulated timeframe, fulfilling a long-pending demand of residents. He also announced that a new railway line was being laid between Bahraich and Khalilabad and said efforts were underway to improve connectivity between Bahraich and Gorakhpur through Siddharthnagar, Shohratgarh and Balrampur.
Vaishnaw said that Bahraich-Nanpara-Nepalganj Road rail section had been integrated into the broad-gauge network. He said successive govts had ignored the border region, leaving it dependent on metre-gauge connectivity even as railway networks elsewhere in the country were modernised. Highlighting the strategic importance of the project, CM said the rail link would strengthen cultural and economic ties between India and Nepal while enhancing connectivity to important religious and tourist destinations, including Ayodhya, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Katarniaghat wildlife sanctuary. Referring to the region’s history, Yogi said Bahraich was associated with Maharaja Suheldev, who defeated Salar Masud, the 11th-century Ghaznavid military commander. He said that a grand memorial dedicated to the king had now been completed during his regime.
Addressing a function in Bahraich, Yogi, accompanied virtually by Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw , inaugurated train services on the newly converted broad-gauge section and flagged off a special train connecting Rupaidiha with Varanasi. Yogi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and railway minister for the project and for announcing four additional train services for the region. He alleged that past govts neglected Suheldev’s legacy.
