Bengaluru: A 17-year-old from Rajasthan was caught for allegedly creating a fake Facebook account in the name of an IPS officer here and collecting money from people.
I was asked to pay Rs 40,000 as advance. Police recovered Rs 2 lakh in cash from the juvenile, which was allegedly part of the money fraudulently obtained through fake bank accounts.
“Using my mobile number, the miscreant said a CRPF constable was selling household articles for a low price and I should buy them. Later I realised it was a con game,” the victim told police. He said he created fake Facebook accounts in the names of several IAS and IPS officers across the country and were collecting money by impersonating them,” a police officer said.
The fake account was in the name of IPS officer Narayana M, deputy commissioner of police, Electronics City division. The fraud was exposed in July when a victim filed a police complaint stating miscreants had opened a Facebook account in Narayan’s name and a friend request was sent to him. “During interrogation, the teenager confessed to have committed the offence along with a few associates.
