Kochi : Two separate assaults resulted in two people’s fingers being bitten off in Ernakulam. In Pathalam, Eloor, a man’s thumb was severed while trying to stop a theft attempt, and in an Ernakulam North lodge, a resident’s index finger was bitten off during a verbal dispute.
Hearing Ruksana’s cries, her father-in-law Saleem K A, 62, tried to obstruct the thief.
But the severed part of his finger could not be reattached, said Sajeena Shameer, Saleem’s daughter. He bit off Saleem’s right-hand thumb as he tried to flee. The detached thumb was found around 20m away. The family is yet to file a complaint with the police. North Police registered a case against Baby, who went into hiding after the incident. Based on the lodge owner’s complaint, Abhilash has been taken into police custody.
In Pathalam on Thursday night, a thief tried to snatch a young woman’s gold chain as she came to collect water from a public tap. Saleem was immediately taken to a nearby ESI hospital and then shifted to a private hospital in Kolencherry where he underwent surgery on Friday.
