Stalin launched the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) 2.0 and the Digital Fingerprint Collection System across all 1,541 police stations in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. The CCTNS 2.0 project, with a sanctioned outlay of Rs 124.37 crore, was developed by TCS as a web-based application that can be accessed from any digital device, replacing the standalone desktop-based CCTNS 1.0 developed by NIC.
The launch introduced voice-to-text FIR recording, live crime scene mapping, and optical character recognition among several advanced features. Citizens can register senior citizens and locked houses, search property with unique identifiers, register online complaints, view the status of complaints and FIRs, view arrested person details, search for missing persons and unidentified dead bodies, obtain police verification reports and lost document reports, and download road accident documents. The upgrade will be rolled out to all police stations and special agencies, including CB-CID, DVAC, and other investigation units.
The OCR card reader facility enables officers to capture content from govt-issued identity cards such as PAN and Aadhaar cards, automatically storing names, addresses, and mobile numbers in the system.
This eliminates discrepancies from manual data entry that previously caused complications during judicial proceedings and victim assistance fund disbursements.
The voice-to-text facility allows investigation officers to dictate FIR content in Tamil and English by clicking a speaker button in the application, which converts speech into text that can be edited later.
