Only 58 of the 564 schools in the PCMC limits have so far obtained the fire safety compliance certificate
Just 58 of the 564 schools and 138 of the 674 hospitals registered with the municipal corporation have obtained the mandatory certification. The PCMC in 2024 made it mandatory for all commercial and industrial establishments in the city to obtain the fire safety compliance certificate even if they had obtained the final fire NOC for the structures when these were constructed. The decision was taken after a fire at an illegal candle unit in Talawade, in which 14 people were killed. Venkatesh Durvas, the deputy municipal commissioner and the head of the PCMC fire brigade department, told TOI , “We will serve notices within two weeks to all 97 fuel stations that have not obtained the fire safety compliance certificate from the municipal corporation.

Pune: A majority of commercial establishments within the Pimpri Chinchwad civic limits are yet to obtain the mandatory fire safety compliance certificate from the fire brigade department despite repeated appeals and notices, triggering safety concerns. The mandatory fire NOC issued to newly constructed structures is different from the fire safety compliance certificate granted to businesses operating from such premises. “While a fire NOC cannot be issued to an illegal structure, a fire safety compliance certificate can be granted to establishments irrespective of their legal status, as it strictly pertains to fire safety measures and does not cover other aspects. They will be given a month to comply.
