Lucknow: A six-year-old girl was allegedly molested by a 50-year-old neighbour at his rented accommodation in Lucknow, police said on Sunday. The accused, identified as Anil Awasthi, was taken into custody and the child is being medically examined.

“Late Saturday, the girl’s family members reached the police station and said the child was playing outside her house. When she did not return for some time, they went looking for her and found her in the house of a neighbour, identified as Anil Awasthi,” said ADCP East Amol Murkut. The mother said the child complained of pain in her private parts and disclosed that Awasthi touched her inappropriately. ACP Ghazipur Atul Pandey said the accused has been taken into custody and the child was being medically examined. Police said further action would be taken based on the medical report and the findings of the investigation.
The family subsequently approached Ghazipur police station and lodged a complaint against the man. Download the TOI App.
