Mumbai: Maharashtra minister Ashish Shelar on Tuesday announced the expansion of the ‘Abhay’ scheme to cover around 25,000 slum dwellers. The scheme currently benefits eligible slum dwellers in stalled redevelopment projects where Annexure-II was prepared before 2011. The scheme would now be expanded to cover slum dwellers whose structures existed before 2000 and those between 2000 and 2011, but who were left out of the scheme following transfers after Annexure-II was prepared, said Shelar, the guardian minister of Mumbai Suburban district, in a press release. He also directed officials to take necessary steps to include eligible and ineligible slum dwellers from the 2000-2011 period under the Abhay scheme.
Because their structures were transferred after Annexure-II was prepared, were not covered, however, slum dwellers whose structures were declared ineligible then but who could become eligible under subsequent rules, as well as those who were left out.
