New Delhi: The 666-bed super-speciality block at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital has received fire safety clearance, clearing a key hurdle for the commissioning of the Rs 482-crore facility and bringing it a step closer to becoming operational.
Officials said the clearance paves the way for the block to become operational, although a timeline has not yet been announced. The 11-storey block will add 666 beds to the hospital’s existing capacity of 1,538. It will house 18 operation theatres, 99 intensive care unit beds, 196 high-dependency unit beds and three catheterisation laboratories. The new facility is expected to strengthen tertiary care services at the central govt-run hospital, particularly in oncology, oncosurgery, hepatology, gastrointestinal surgery and liver transplantation. It will also feature two linear accelerators for cancer treatment and a nuclear medicine department equipped with PET scan facilities.
