NAVI MUMBAI: A 27-year-old quack doctor was detained by Panvel taluka police after a complaint was lodged by the medical officer of the Primary Health Centre at Ajivali village in Panvel taluka, following an inspection by health department officials at his illegal clinic in Kasalkhand village on Monday afternoon. Gajanan Ghadge, senior inspector of Panvel taluka police, informed that the complaint was lodged by medical officer Dr Sayali Mankar, 33, who inspected Haq’s clinic in Kasalkhand village and found that he was an unqualified and unregistered medical practitioner allegedly practising modern medicine by posing as a doctor. Inspector Ghadge said, “We have invoked relevant sections of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961, against the accused, which prohibit any person from practising medicine in the state unless their name is registered under the relevant statutory provisions and prescribe criminal penalties and fines for those who illegally practise medicine without valid registration.
He had been running the clinic and treating patients for the past one month, police said. The police seized medicines stocked at the clinic as evidence. Under the law, the accused was served a notice under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), directing him to appear for inquiry when summoned and during the court proceedings. “
