Pawar said protecting govt land, particularly property linked to irrigation projects, is one of the primary responsibilities of revenue officials. The inquiry found that transactions involving NSP canal lands and lands governed by the Land Ceiling Act were processed without adequate scrutiny of historical revenue records, previous inquiries and court orders. Officials allegedly failed to verify the actual status of the land, land ceiling details and NSP canal records before issuing certification reports. The collector noted that revenue officials are responsible for safeguarding govt land and enforcing land ceiling regulations. However, the officials allegedly submitted incorrect verification reports and overlooked available records as well as judicial orders, which was viewed as serious negligence in the discharge of official duties. He warned that negligence or involvement in irregularities would not be tolerated and that stringent action would be taken against those found responsible. Download the TOI App.
