Is Patrick Mahomes ’ 15 and the Mahomies Foundation too perfect to be true? Since launching the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation in 2019, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s organization has focused on children’s health, wellness, education, and underserved communities. The 15 and the Mahomies Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit with EIN 83-4134118 and has been tax-exempt since July 2019, according to publicly available nonprofit records, including ProPublica’s Nonprofit Explorer. Its public profile lists programs including Read for 15, Volunteer for 15 and 15 FOR 15, which support youth initiatives involving academics, science, arts, athletics, disabilities and after-school programs. Charity Navigator’s fiscal-year 2024 assessment says the foundation reported no material diversion of assets and received full credit for the relevant tax-form disclosure metric. The foundation’s latest publicly available Form 990 via ProPublica , covering fiscal year 2024, provides additional financial context. The filing reported approximately $1.5 million in total revenue and $1.518 million in total expenses, resulting in expenses exceeding revenue by approximately $14,438. It reported approximately $298,164 in net assets and no reported liabilities at the end of the fiscal year. In 2025, the foundation launched three scholarship programs through Bold.org, committing $150,000 in total awards to students in the Kansas City area, the Tyler, TX area, and Lubbock County. Each program offered $50,000 scholarships [5 winners, $10,000 each]. So, our question remains the same: does 15 and the Mahomies Foundation have an unusually clean publicly visible reputation?
Charity Navigator currently gives the organization a 92% rating and four-star designation, with three of its four assessed “beacons” completed. But “couldn’t find a publicly documented complaint” is reportedly not the same as “there have never been complaints. Based on the records and sources reviewed, there is reportedly no basis to label the foundation “exposed” or to imply undisclosed wrongdoing.
Mahomes has built a prominent charitable organization. But an unusual question reportedly emerges when you examine the foundation’s public footprint closely: why is there so little publicly visible negative noise surrounding it? Aren’t you curious? A search across several publicly available nonprofit records, scholarship platforms, and online discussions reviewed for this article reportedly did not reveal a substantial publicly documented pattern of complaints, scandals, or disgruntled beneficiaries involving the foundation. That may be reassuring, but for an investigative look, the absence of publicly documented criticism may not, by itself, prove perfection. That is a strong public record – but there is a crucial point of context. Nevertheless, it received zero scores for financial statements and records retention policy under Charity Navigator’s accountability framework. Charity Navigator’s financial-statements framework assesses whether an organization has financial statements compiled, reviewed, or audited by an independent accountant to ensure accuracy, while its records-retention framework assesses whether the organization has a policy establishing guidelines for the handling, backing up, archiving, and destruction of documents. This is where the investigation becomes more intriguing. The publicly searchable digital sources reviewed for this article did not reportedly reveal an obvious stream of complaints or major controversies involving the foundation. That does not necessarily mean no complaints or negative experiences have ever existed; it only reflects what was publicly identifiable through the sources examined. Its Bold.org presence is similarly overwhelmingly positive, featuring scholarship winners and letters from recipients. Online reviews and publicly searchable information are inherently incomplete, and the absence of negative posts may not necessarily prove that every donor, applicant, employee, or beneficiary has had a flawless experience. The available information reviewed for this article does not reportedly support allegations of fraud, financial misconduct, or a hidden scandal involving the foundation.
