For gambling and matka activities, police registered 57 cases against 219 accused, seizing

Between Sept 1 and 7, police registered eight gutka-related cases, 57 against gambling and matka activities, 213 prohibition cases, 10 Arms Act cases and 53 under various other laws.

Nanded led with seizures worth Rs 3.69 crore, followed by Hingoli (Rs 42.16 lakh), Parbhani (Rs 29.52 lakh) and Latur (Rs 18.28 lakh). “Liquor-related offences accounted for the largest number of 213 cases registered against 218 accused, leading to seizures worth Rs 8.94 lakh. Nanded reported 71 cases, followed by Hingoli (64), Latur (58) and Parbhani (20),” police said. For gambling and matka activities, police registered 57 cases against 219 accused, seizing properties worth Rs 78.11 lakh. Latur recorded the highest number of cases at 19, followed by Nanded (16), Hingoli (14) and Parbhani (8). Police also registered eight gutka cases against 12 accused and seized contraband worth Rs 17.03 lakh. Under the Arms Act, police registered 10 cases against 14 accused and seized weapons and related material worth Rs 56,300. Parbhani recorded four cases, followed by Latur (3), Nanded (2) and Hingoli (1).

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Nanded range police have registered 341 cases against 529 accused and seized property worth Rs 5.63 crore during the first seven days of the month-long “illegal business elimination drive-3” launched on Sept 1. “The special drive, which will continue till Sept 30, targets illegal gutka trade, matka gambling , illicit liquor operations, Arms Act violations and other offences across Nanded , Parbhani, Hingoli and Latur districts,” Nanded range deputy inspector general of police Shahaji Umap said. Police said the highest value of seizures came from the “other offences” category.
