A section of the Nagpur-Ratnagiri National Highway has been barricaded due to damage at a narrow bend between Visava Point and Ozare Khindi in Amba Ghat. The extent of the damage and the cause are currently under investigation. Authorities are assessing the situation to determine necessary repairs and ensure safety for motorists traveling through this area.
Landslides Disrupt Traffic at Amba Ghat
This monsoon season, Amba Ghat has experienced multiple landslide incidents. The most recent occurred on July 31, when a retaining wall in Ozare Khindi collapsed. This failure resulted in road cracks, making the area unsafe for vehicles. Following the incident, the ghat section was closed for nearly 20 days to facilitate repair work, causing significant disruption for commuters.
Meanwhile, work on the detailed project report (DPR) for the highway is on. Given the challenging terrain in the Amba Ghat section, planners have ruled out a straight alignment. To ensure safer and uninterrupted traffic movement and reduce the impact of recurring landslides, three tunnels have been proposed as part of Nagpur-Ratnagiri National Highway project.
Just two days before the latest landslide, an old protective wall near Visava Point gave way and fell into the valley, further weakening the roadside and raising fears of additional damage during heavy rainfall.
