Eight Tamil Nadu students killed as car rams truck at night in Thrissur
Thrissur : A joint inspection conducted on NH 66 at Kaipamangalam in Thrissur following the accident that claimed the lives of eight engineering students has identified several lapses in road-safety and traffic-management measures.

The inspection was conducted on the directives of Thrissur district collector Sikha Surendran. The team comprised officials from the police, motor vehicles department, public works department and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), besides expert member of Kerala road safety authority Upendra Narayanan. Narayanan also pointed to the absence of adequate parking areas and basic amenities along the highway as another major safety concern. “Long-distance drivers tend to park their vehicles wherever space is available along the road and sleep inside them, often without switching on the warning lights. “Our objective is to avert road accidents by putting in place appropriate precautionary measures.
