A 60-year-old retired officer from Nagpur has fallen victim to a cyber fraud scheme, losing Rs 11 lakh. The fraudsters allegedly enticed him with promises of lucrative share market investments. In response to the incident, Nagpur cyber police have filed a cheating case under the Information Technology Act against two suspects, identified as Vinay Jhariya and Deepak Kumar.

Police said the complainant, a Madhya Pradesh-based company’s retired officer who lives under Sitabuldi police station limits, came across a trading investment advertisement on Facebook on Aug 28. The man subsequently transferred a total of Rs 11 lakh, police said.
Investigators said the two accused then contacted the senior citizen and persuaded him to invest money in the stock market over a period of time. Based on the complaint, cyber police registered an offence and have begun an investigation, officials said. The advertisement carried photographs of several industrialists, which led him to show interest in investing. However, he neither received any profits nor got back his principal amount. After realising he had been duped, he approached cyber police and lodged a complaint.
