Mumbai: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has arrested two directors of Mumbai-based Dotsmark Systems India Ltd. for allegedly evading around Rs 40 crore in anti-dumping duty by misdeclaring the country of origin of imported industrial laser machines. The two directors arrested are Ravi Bhandari and Praveen Jain, the directors of Dotsmark Systems India Ltd and Bindesh Singh, the sales executive of Dikai Coding technology.
The alleged scheme was adopted after India imposed an anti-dumping duty on industrial laser machines originating in or exported from China in December 2023. In his statement recorded under Section 108 of the Customs Act, Bhandari allegedly admitted that he was aware of the anti-dumping duty and accepted that the machines were manufactured in China. The DRI said the company allegedly imported laser marking machines manufactured in China by routing them through Indonesia and declaring Indonesia as their country of origin. He allegedly told investigators that the arrangement was designed to avoid the duty. Investigators allegedly found that machines were manufactured in China, shipped to Indonesia, and subsequently exported to India with fresh documentation showing Indonesian origin.
