Belagavi : The third additional district and sessions court in Belagavi has sentenced a woman and her lover to life imprisonment for conspiring to murder her husband over an illicit relationship.

Judge Savitakumari N delivered the verdict against Pawan Sanjay Bhokre and Sumitra alias Sunita Anand Lamani, both residents of Obalapur DLT, holding them guilty of the murder of Anand Ramesh Lamani. Following the investigation, the accused were arrested, and a chargesheet was filed. After examining the evidence and witness testimonies, the court found both accused guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Public prosecutor RG Devareddy represented the prosecution. On March 18, 2021, the accused allegedly took Anand from Ramdurg towards the Katakol area after making him consume alcohol.
Pawan was involved in an extramarital relationship with Sumitra, which had aroused Anand’s suspicions, according to the prosecution. Fearing opposition and possible action from Anand, the duo allegedly conspired to eliminate him. They later brought him near the Balekundri canal along the Salahalli-Ramdurg road. Pawan allegedly pushed him into the water from behind, leading to his death by drowning While Anand was washing his hands and face near the canal.
The case was investigated by then Ramdurg DSP Ramangouda Hatti, who registered offences under sections related to murder and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
