Prayagraj : A cybercrime police constable has been suspended, and Varanasi police have been asked to suspend an inspector after the two allegedly took Rs 4.2 lakh from a woman police constable to unfreeze her brother’s bank accounts, which had been frozen after he was duped of Rs 60 lakh in a cyber fraud .
Constable Neeshu Singh alleged that the former in charge of the cyber police station, Om Narayan Gautam, and constable Abhishek Kumar took Rs 4.2 lakh but were still not willing to get her brother’s accounts released, following which she lodged an FIR. Police said a cyber fraud was committed against the constable’s brother, following which an FIR under relevant sections of the BNS was lodged at the cybercrime police station on May 28.
ACP (Civil Lines) Vidyut Goel told TOI that the constable has been suspended and recommendations had been made to Varanasi police for the suspension of the inspector. She also accused the inspector of seeking educational materials for his daughter, who was preparing for the NEET exam. The FIR was lodged at Civil Lines police station against Gautam and Abhishek under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He added that the local police were probing the matter and action would be initiated accordingly. Inspector Gautam was handling the investigation.
