Emergency personnel respond to an accident involving a tour bus near Susch, in the canton of Grisons, Switzerland.
At least five people were killed and 40 injured in Switzerland on Thursday after a bus crashed near an Alpine village. Authorities said that the tour bus was carrying 48 tourists from Netherlands.
The bus overturned between the villages of Susch and Zernez in the Alpine canton of Graubuenden, according to Swiss police. A police spokesman said the coach collided with a crash barrier before overturning. Oad, the travel agency behind the trip, said in a statement in Dutch that it was “deeply shocked and devastated by the tragic bus accident” and that its thoughts were with those involved and their loved ones. The Dutch foreign ministry said it was too early to determine the number of victims. Swiss President Guy Parmelin, writing on X, vowed that Swiss authorities would ensure a “comprehensive and thorough investigation” into the incident. Several ambulances and five helicopters were deployed to the site, according to Swiss media.
