Hotels, restaurants, residential societies, markets and institutions spread over more than 5,000 sqm will have to ensure segregation at source. Buildings exceeding 20,000 sqm, establishments using at least 40,000 litres of water daily or those generating more than 100 kg of waste a day will be classified as bulk waste generators. These include laying a new sewer line from Medical College crossing to Rambagh crossing and extending the line from Medical College towards Alopibagh SPAO by around 500 m. The plans also include installing two 10-cusec pumps each at Bakshi Bandh flood pumping station and a new 40-cusec electric submersible pump. The capacity of Chachar Nala flood pumping station is proposed to be increased by another 20 cusecs. Besides, a 500-bed super specialty hospital will be built over more than three hectares in Naini’s Jahangirabad area in Ward 31. Of the total beds, 50 will be permanently reserved for Nagar Nigam employees and councillors, benefiting around 4,500 sanitation workers, while 25% of the beds will be reserved for Ayushman cardholders.

Prayagraj: Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a new solid waste management policy aimed at ensuring that garbage is segregated at source and scientifically collected, processed and disposed of, while also preparing a major expansion of drains, sewer lines and flood-pumping capacity in waterlogged parts of the city. The policy makes it mandatory for households, shops and institutions to keep wet, dry, sanitary and special-care waste separately. Dumping or burning garbage in the open and disposing of it in drains or water bodies will be prohibited. The corporation will be empowered to levy user charges and impose fines for violations. Action will be taken against construction and encroachment over drains. The mayor warned that people should remove such encroachments themselves or face removal by the corporation, saying these were among the factors contributing to waterlogging in the city. Meanwhile, the civic body is preparing nine proposals to strengthen drainage and sewer infrastructure. The company for the project has already been selected, and construction is expected to begin after the bhoomi pujan during Navratri, with the hospital likely to become operational within three years.
