A resident of Akshardham Bungalows in South Bopal, the accident occurred around 8.30pm, according to a complaint filed by Nishith Shah. Residents subsequently dialled 112, following which police arrived at the spot and detained the driver.

Shah said he rushed outside after hearing a loud crash and saw a car being driven at high speed in a rash manner. The footage also showed a “POLICE” plate placed on the dashboard. Investigators said they would verify the driver‘s identity and determine how the vehicle came to display the “POLICE” plate.

Bopal police arrested the driver after locals alerted the police control room. The car rammed into his parked Renault Duster, damaging its rear-right side. A case was registered against the driver for allegedly driving under the influence and causing damage to multiple vehicles. Videos recorded by residents after the accident showed the driver apparently struggling to stand, while locals attempting to stop him from leaving the scene. However, the police complaint does not mention the plate displayed on the vehicle, nor does it indicate whether the accused is associated with the police force.
