As an AIIMS-trained dermatologist here are simple practical tips to help you keep skin healthy and glowing while enjoying the festivities, says Dr. The festive season is around the corner and it is the time of year when we look forward to all year celebrations, parties, family gatherings, dressing up and of course plenty of photographs.Late nights, stress, alcohol, frequent makeup and changes in your usual routine can sometimes leave skin looking dull dehydrated and tired. There is no need to force yourself to drink 3–4 litres of water the day or use ORS routinely to “flush out toxins. You do not need a 10‑step routine or multiple procedures to look your best during the festive season. Alcohol can contribute to dehydration which may leave skin looking dry, tired and less radiant. If you do drink make sure you also drink water throughout the day. Your body already has systems, including liver and kidneys to process alcohol and its by‑products. Instead focus on alcohol intake, adequate hydration, nutritious food and a good night’s sleep. ● Sensitive skin: Choose products with minimal irritating ingredients. Most importantly never sleep with makeup on. Leaving makeup, sweat and oil on skin overnight can contribute to pores and breakouts. Your makeup‑removal routine matters too. Micellar water can be an option while cleansing oils or balms can work well for removing heavier makeup particularly on dry skin. Whatever you use follow it with a cleanser if needed and avoid excessive rubbing. If you use makeup‑removing pads wash and dry them thoroughly after every use. Otherwise they can accumulate product residue and microorganisms. The festive season is not the time to experiment with a completely new skincare routine. Prioritise sleep, hydration, balanced food, sunscreen a consistent skincare routine and moderation. Importantly do not experiment with aggressive treatments or new skincare products at the last minute.
