Belagavi : The city’s flower market is witnessing record business during Ganeshotsav, with more than 120 tonnes of flowers sold in just four days amid a sharp surge in festive demand. Traders reported sales of nearly 50 tonnes on Saturday, 40 tonnes on Sunday, 20 tonnes on Monday and around 10 tonnes on Tuesday, generating substantial turnover.
Wholesalers said demand this year has surpassed that of previous years, making it one of the busiest Ganeshotsav seasons in recent memory. Flowers are being purchased in large quantities for Ganesha idol installations, pujas, aartis and the decoration of household and public mandaps across the city and surrounding areas. Roses and sevanti (chrysanthemums) continue to be the most sought-after flowers for worship and decorations, while marigolds have also emerged as a festive favourite. With fresh supplies arriving daily, markets across Belagavi are stocked with marigold garlands and floral arrangements widely used during the celebrations. The festive rush has brought cheer to growers, wholesalers, garland makers and vendors, who expect demand to remain strong throughout the festival. Traders say the robust sales reflect the growing scale of Ganeshotsav celebrations across the district.
