Investigations revealed that a group of 10 to 12 youths in Athani, aged between 20 and 25, had allegedly circulated a video depicting an offensive crime.

The key accused were counselled and made to submit written apologies, police said. Police said the video appeared aimed at projecting a criminal image and creating fear among local residents. Belagavi : Belagavi district police have intensified their crackdown on youths allegedly trying to spread fear and disturb public order through threatening behaviour and provocative social media posts. In separate operations carried out in Sankeshwar and Athani over the past three days, police registered preventive cases against youths accused of threatening citizens, attempting assaults, creating panic in public places and circulating intimidating videos. Police have also noticed a growing trend of youngsters posting videos featuring vehicles, weapons and aggressive behaviour on national highways. Such content is then widely circulated on social media platforms, allegedly to gain notoriety and intimidate the public. SP K Ramarajan warned that police were closely monitoring social media activity and would take stringent action against anyone posting content that promotes violence, threatens citizens or disturbs public order.

Similar incidents involving youths from Ninganur and Savadatti had earlier invited strict action, including externment proceedings.
