Meerut: An FIR was registered against eight named individuals and 20 to 25 unidentified persons associated with Hindu organisations following a road blockade staged after animal remains were found in Aliganj area of Bareilly. The protesters had alleged that the incident involved cow slaughter.
The FIR under BNS sections 191-2 (rioting), 270 (public nuisance) and 308-2 (extortion) was registered following a complaint by one Bhup Kishore, son of the village pradhan. They also demanded Rs 25,000 from the pradhan before allowing the disposal to proceed.
Rainwater had accumulated in a roadside pit that has for long been used for dumping dead animals, according to the complaint. Kishore accused the demonstrators of blocking the road, rioting and demanding money. The incident happened near Bhajnai gram panchayat along Aliganj-Sirauli road. As water levels rose, the remains surfaced. Local authorities subsequently brought in a bulldozer to remove the remains and manage their disposal. The complainant stated that protesters arrived at the spot and stopped the clean-up process and blocked the road. Police later intervened and cleared the blockade. Meanwhile, members of Hindu organisations maintained that they were merely demanding rightful action after discovering the remains, and claimed the FIR was retaliatory.
