A viral AI-generated video was circulating online about ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe.
Because of my comments, i specifically want to apologize to Holly Rowe for what she personally had to deal with.
Peyton and Eli Manning’s nephew said, “I’ve seen a few AI edits of stuff. Arch said something insensitive about a viral violence-against-Rowe-promoting video. Smith and said, “Okay, so Stephen A. and I learned about this yesterday, and so I’ll give my quick take on this,” Cornette said.
The video showed Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian slapping Rowe during a sideline interview. At the team’s weekly media availability, Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning spoke about that viral video. But that’s about it. I saw an AI edit of Sark [Steve Sarkisian]’s interview [reporters laugh in the background]…You all seen that one? That’s a good one! [Arch starts laughing uncontrollably]…Of him slapping Holly Rowe? [Arch laughing continues]…Yeah, it’s hilarious! As soon as Arch Manning made that comment about ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe, his press meet video went viral. Everyone started sharing their own opinion. Criticism of his comments came forward. And so did his heartfelt apology via Instagram story. There is nothing funny about it. It’s easy to say I didn’t mean it, but I know my words and actions were hurtful to a lot of people. I do not take that lightly and am deeply sorry for that. I have a ton of respect for her and appreciate her showing me grace in this moment. I need to do better and will be more thoughtful going forward. Arch’s apology reached AI-video victim Holly Rowe. Rowe responded through her Instagram story, tagging Arch’s apology: “Thank you, Arch. I appreciate our conversation about this – which will remain private. Apology accepted. We move forward with respect and kindness for one another. The Arch Manning episode was not going to end there. Arch apologized for it. And then Rowe accepted Arch’s apology. The episode was not going to end there. It was going to attract some backlash from Rowe’s colleagues. And that’s exactly what ESPN’s First Take host Shae Cornette did. Shae Cornette sat alongside longtime ESPN’s First Take host Stephen A. “And when I first heard Arch’s comments and watched that press conference, my initial reaction was, my goodness, how insensitive, how immature, and kind of, quite frankly, like how dare he say that, especially about Holly and the way he was laughing about it. Cornette continued, “And maybe that’s unfair, given his age and his immaturity level still and what he’s going through at his age. But that is just the reality of the situation that comes with it. He’s apologized. He had a conversation with Holly Roe, which I love. Now, I do wish his apology was vocal, was on video as opposed to in text. But nonetheless, now we move forward. “But what I do hope is, obviously, this was a very strong learning lesson for him. You don’t necessarily need to be laughing about a video that provokes violence, especially towards women. And so Arch hopefully will do better,” added Cornette.
