Accused – Venkatesan
Maity, who has sustained injuries, had been working as a nurse at Narayana Clinic for 18 months. Based on the preliminary investigation, police said that around 9.15am, she had stepped out for breakfast when her husband, Venkatesan, 39, a native of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, chased her to the clinic parking area in the basement of the multistorey building.
The PSI controlled the crowd and told them to stay away as he was taking him to the police station. Eventually, a traffic police sub-inspector from JP Nagar traffic police station fought the man and saved Madhumita Maity, a resident of a paying guest accommodation in south Bengaluru and a native of Kolkata. A traffic sub-inspector, Venkatesh K, attached to JP Nagar traffic police, along with his colleague, head constable Madhu, was on duty nearby. They heard people shouting and rushed to the spot. Venkatesh tried to stop Venkatesan at the basement while he tried to flee. Venkatesan brandished the machete at Venkatesh. As he was repeatedly trying to attack the duo of cops, Venkatesh ran inside the basement and found bamboo logs. He brought a log and hit Venkatesan, making him drop the machete. Soon, Venkatesh caught Venkatesan. The angered crowd requested Venkatesh to hand over the attacker to them as they wanted to teach him a lesson. A few persons assaulted Venkatesan. Venkatesh hired an autorickshaw and took the attacker to JP Nagar law and order police station. Madhumita is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, and her condition is critical.
JP Nagar police inspected the spot. A case of attempt to murder has been registered. Venkatesan, a private oil firm employee, has also suffered injuries and is undergoing treatment at another hospital. Police are questioning him to ascertain the exact motive behind the attack. He confessed that he purchased a machete, knife and acid in TN.
