The operation resulted in the seizure of 2kg of heroin, estimated to be worth Rs 12 crore, and the arrest of a 31-year-old man. New Delhi: A joint operation by Delhi Police Special Cell and Vadodara City Crime Branch of Gujarat Police has busted an alleged narco-extortion network linked to gangster Rohit Godara and his associate Mahender Delana.
DCP (Special Cell) Narra Chaitanya said the heroin was of Pakistani origin and that the arrested accused, Kuldeep Swami (31), a native of Churu in Rajasthan, was wanted in a Rs 10-crore extortion case registered by Vadodara Crime Branch. Acting on intelligence shared by Gujarat Police, Special Cell teams intercepted Swami near Bikaner Sweets in Chandni Chowk on Sept 12. Swami collected extortion money ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 50 lakh per transaction across Delhi-NCR and Rajasthan for commissions of Rs 15,000-20,000, according to police. On Sept 5, he allegedly travelled to Amritsar on Delana’s instructions and collected the heroin from two unidentified suppliers before returning to Delhi. Police said Swami, who suffered business losses of over Rs 50 lakh in 2022, came in contact with Delana through Instagram and was drawn into the network.
Police recovered a currency note allegedly used as a hawala verification token and keys to a Maruti Swift Dzire from his possession. Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act at Special Cell police station.
Further investigation is under way to trace the hawala trail and identify other members of the syndicate.
