Kanpur: A grocery trader was robbed of Rs 50,000 by a man posing as a passenger in an auto rickshaw in the city’s Harbansh Mohal police station area on Friday. Purushottam Das Shivhare (60), a grocery trader from Chhani village in Hamirpur, arrived in Kanpur with Rs 1 lakh for business. About 50 steps before Sutarkhana police outpost, Shivhare found Rs 50,000 missing and his pocket cut.
Police station in-charge Lalit Kumar said a case is being registered on the trader’s complaint and the accused will be identified and arrested based on CCTV footage. He boarded an auto rickshaw at Tat Mill for Nayaganj and sat beside two passengers. Suspecting the youth beside him, he grabbed his hand, but the man pushed him and fled towards Taat Mill bridge. Regional coordinator of BJP Kanpur-Bundelkhand Vyapar Prakoshth Vinod Gupta subsequently reached the police outpost with traders and the victim. The outpost in- charge Vineet Tyagi inspected the spot, while police began examining nearby CCTV footage.
