Authorities interact with farmers during a meeting on requisition of land on rental basis for the proposed Sadhugram ahead of the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik
The meeting also reviewed pending compensation linked to land acquisitions carried out in 2003 and 2015 for the Hotel Jatra-Nandur Naka and Takli road projects. Officials said the total compensation liability is estimated at around Rs 60 crore. Khatri said NMC had earmarked Rs 100 crore in the current financial year’s budget to clear pending compensation claims and that disbursements would be made from this allocation. Officials said stakeholder consultations would continue in the coming months as planning for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela progresses.

NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri, mayor Himgauri Aher and NTKMA commissioner Shekhar Singh said the additional land would be rented through memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with landowners and that ownership rights would remain with farmers after the event. Responding to concerns that the administration could later reserve or restrict the use of such land, Khatri said no reservations would be imposed on properties leased for the temporary Sadhugram expansion. The assurance came during a joint interaction organised by NMC and Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) at Laxmi Vijay Lawns, where officials addressed farmers’ concerns over land leasing, pending compensation and infrastructure issues. She also assured farmers that development permissions and layout approvals would be granted after the Kumbh Mela, ensuring no long-term impact from the temporary requisition. Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday assured farmers that land requisitioned temporarily for the expansion of Sadhugram would not face any permanent reservation or development restrictions after the event.
Authorities plan to expand Sadhugram, the accommodation zone for sadhus and seers during the Kumbh Mela, from the existing 350 acres at Tapovan to nearly 1,400 acres for the 2027 congregation. To facilitate the expansion, around 1,050 acres in Nandur, Manur and nearby areas will be taken on lease from farmers. For the 2015 Kumbh Mela, Sadhugram was developed on 350 acres.
Sadhugram is the designated area where sadhus and seers are accommodated during the Kumbh Mela.
