Dindigul: A 15-year-old boy was electrocuted after an electric wire snapped and fell on him while he was removing a tarpaulin from a hay-laden truck near Sanarpatti in Dindigul district on Friday. Police said Dineshkumar, 23, a truck driver from Ellaipatti near Markkampatti, had brought a load of hay from Thanjavur district in a truck. The deceased was identified as Periyakaruppan, from Ellaipatti. When the hay was about to be unloaded, the tarpaulin covering the load was found stuck. Periyakaruppan, a school dropout, who was doing odd jobs in the village, reportedly climbed on top of the truck to remove the tarpaulin. an electric wire passing nearby snapped and fell on him While he was on the truck. He suffered an electric shock and was thrown off the vehicle. He sustained severe burn injuries and died on the spot. The snapped wire also triggered a fire in the hay-laden truck, causing the hay to be engulfed in fire. Dindigul fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. Police recovered the boy’s body and sent it to Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination.
