Virudhunagar district police have registered a case against two people, including a minor, for issuing a bomb threat during a Ganesh Chaturthi procession in Srivilliputhur.
After the procession moved past the area, two youths, Mohamed Ashraf, 22, and a 17-year-old boy, shouted that a ‘bomb would explode in Srivilliputhur’ as HM cadres chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.
Police said tension prevailed briefly when the procession reached the mosque near the Clock Tower area. Police said both were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Police took the duo to the station for inquiry, and got a written undertaking before releasing them. A video purportedly showing them issuing the threat went viral on social media. Srivilliputhur town police registered a case against the two, and further investigation is underway.
Idols installed at several places in Srivilliputhur were taken out in a procession on Wednesday night amid music and drumbeats before being immersed in a local tank.
