The protesters claimed that such restrictions were imposed only during Hindu festivals and expressed their displeasure over the police action. The agitation created a tense atmosphere on Jawahar Road for some time. As the protest intensified, police faced difficulty in controlling the crowd. The situation remained tense for a while before senior officers held talks with the protesters and brought it under control.
