In Kanpur, a woman head constable has filed a First Information Report (FIR) after discovering that Rs 40 lakh, received as insurance proceeds following her constable husband’s death, was fraudulently withdrawn from her bank account in three separate transactions. The police have initiated a case against a bank employee based on her complaint. The investigation into the matter is currently underway as authorities seek to determine the circumstances surrounding the unauthorized withdrawals.
Acting on a court order, the insurance company deposited Rs 60.4 lakh in her SBI account. She submitted a written complaint to the branch on July 31, seeking full details and return of the money.
Kotwali police station in charge Arun Dwivedi said a report had been registered against Bhaskar and further action would follow examination of bank records and related documents. Radha , who holds an account at SBI’s Phoolbagh main branch, accused employee Jyoti Bhaskar and other bank officials of collusion. Radha’s husband, Pravesh Kumar, was a constable in the police department and had taken term insurance for his family’s future. Following his death, Radha fought a legal battle from the district court to the HC to secure the insurance payout. Radha planned to secure the money through fixed deposits. After learning of the withdrawals, Radha questioned bank employees but received no satisfactory answer. When the bank took no action, she approached Kotwali police.
