Granite baron R Veeramani who was arrested in relation to a Pocso
An inspector general of police-rank officer and additional commissioner Narenthiran Nayar has been assigned to examine the case and related developments — starting from its registration on Oct 7, 2025, when a pen drive containing a video of the alleged sexual assault of a minor was submitted to the anti-vice squad, through the court’s intervention and the subsequent arrest of Veeramani on Aug 29. When the case was registered in Oct 2025, investigators initially sought to close the case after failing to identify the girl. Veeramani and two associates, a couple, were subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Aug 29.
Chennai: Chief minister C Joseph Vijay has directed city police to take action against anyone found responsible for suppressing or delaying action in the child rape case involving granite baron R Veeramani, officials said. Their statements have been duly recorded, said officials. Vijay discussed the issue with Chennai city commissioner of police A Amalraj, they added. Since the arrest, nine women, who were assaulted as children, have lodged complaints against him. But a special court for Pocso cases rejected the closure report and ordered further probe. The survivor later recorded her statement before a magistrate.
Officers said Veeramani had sold a property for ₹90 crore and payments were made to several people through different bank accounts, and that some funds reached relatives or associates of officers. Investigators are examining financial transactions and claims that money was transferred to officers and others to influence the handling of the case. The team probing the case plans to seek the custody of the couple for interrogation.
