The Jivdaya Charitable Trust (JCT) team rushed to the hospital campus after rescuers alerted it about the incident. On reaching the spot, rescuers found young and sub-adult birds scattered on the ground, their nests and shelter gone. Several birds had suffered injuries, while some were reportedly killed by dogs after being left helpless on the ground.
Of the 61 birds rescued, 10 died from severe injuries before they could reach the JCT facility. The remaining 51 birds are now undergoing treatment at the facility. The 51 birds now under our care have another chance at life, but this situation could have been avoided.
Jivdaya trustee Gira Shah said, “The trees may have been cut down within hours, but the birds lost their nests, shelter and a safe place to raise their young. Sixty-one birds were rescued from the site after the trees, which had sheltered a large heronry, were cut down, wildlife rescuers said.
