College Student Hacked by Gang Near Alanganallur
Madurai : An 18-year-old college student was injured after an unidentified gang allegedly intercepted and attacked him with sickles near Alanganallur in Madurai district on Monday. Police identified the injured as Sanjay Kumar , 18, a resident of A Kovilpatti near Alanganallur. Alanganallur police have registered a case and launched a search for the assailants. Police said Kumar was travelling with his friend on a two-wheeler to college when a group of unidentified men armed with sharp weapons intercepted them and allegedly attacked Kumar repeatedly. Police suspect that the incident was a fallout of previous enmity. He is studying in the second year at a private college in Melur. He sustained cut injuries to his head and other parts of the body. Fearing for their lives, the students fled from the spot. Despite bleeding profusely, Kumar managed to reach a nearby residential area and sought help from villagers. The assailants fled after noticing local residents rushing to the students’ rescue. Police reached the spot and shifted the injured student to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for treatment. CCTV footage from cameras in and around the locality is being examined to identify the suspects. Download the TOI App.
