The incident originated on Sept 3, when an Anandapur resident booked a bike ride through a popular ride-hailing application for a friend traveling from VIP Nagar to a private eye hospital in Newtown, according to cops. Kolkata: The Anandapur police have registered a case against an app based two-wheeler rider following allegations of intimidation, rape threat, verbal abuse, and harassment directed at a commuter over the cancellation of a ride. When the bike arrived at the pickup location, the passenger noticed that the vehicle’s actual registration details did not match the information displayed on the application . Citing potential security risks, the user cancelled the booking. The cancellation reportedly enraged the app-bike rider. Shortly after the trip was cancelled, he called the commuter and used foul, abusive, and sexually obscene slurs targeting the commuter’s mother, while also issuing threats of physical violence.
Consequently, Anandapur PS registered a case against the rider on Saturday under sections 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS.
